Energy and Environment Cabinet

The department, through its divisions and partnerships, provides technical assistance, education and funding to help landowners, institutions, industries, and communities in conserving and sustaining Kentucky's natural resources.  In addition, the department inspects timber harvests and mining operations to ensure the protection of our citizens, our environment and our workers.

We are now accepting nominations for the Department for Natural Resources Award for Excellence in Reclamation given by the Division of Abandoned Mine Lands and the Division of Reclamation and Enforcement. This award goes to a completed reclamation project on a Title IV or a Title V site that demonstrates that mining can be completed and the area returned to condition equal to or better than what existed before, ensuring the environmental integrity of the region. Please click here for more information and to nominate.
